What Is an Intelligent Solar Communication Unit?

The Intelligent Solar Communication Unit—or NCU—is a communication and management device within photovoltaic (PV) tracking systems and intelligent PV control architectures. It is primarily responsible for aggregating data from field devices, managing communications, and transmitting control commands, thereby enabling data exchange between field equipment and upper-level monitoring systems (such as SCADA, IoT platforms, or energy management systems).

In large-scale PV power plants, the vast number of solar tracking systems, PV modules, sensors, and auxiliary equipment—spread across expansive areas—requires a stable and reliable communication network for connectivity.

Acting as a field communication and control node, the NCU centrally manages data from multiple TCUs and other intelligent devices, uploading this information to a central monitoring platform while simultaneously receiving backend control commands to facilitate the intelligent management of the PV system.

1. Data Acquisition and Aggregation

Data from multiple devices is aggregated by the NCU, thereby reducing the communication load that would otherwise result from having a large number of devices connect directly to the backend system.

2. Communication Protocol Conversion

3. Data Upload to SCADA System
